I had a shortcut to internet explorer on the toolbar at the bottom left (next to the Windows symbol). It is gone .... I don't know why, and I can't figure out how to get it back.

If you have a shortcut to it on your desktop you can just click and drag it into the QuickLaunch bar at the bottom next to the Vista logo. Otherwise you'll have to browse to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\. Then click and drag the executable onto the QuickLaunch bar.
